                                           Captain Thomas F. Hahn
 
Capt. Thomas F. Hahn, U.S.N. Ret., age 80, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nathalie White Hahn; son Christopher of Glen Burnie, MD; daughter Elizabeth and her partner Lisa Sasser of Amherst, NH, children of a former marriage to Elizabeth Curtis (deceased); son Duane Torrey and wife Linda of Londonderry, NH; daughter Diane Torrey of Tallahassee, FL; and granddaughter Beverly Hahn of Cockeysville, MD. After retiring from a 28 year Naval career, Thomas pursued an education at Shepherd College and West Virginia University (WVU) earning a Masters degree in History and PhD in Industrial Archaeology, specializing in the study of Canals. Thomas was president of the American Canal Society from 1972 – 1997 and a member of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Society. He was an adjunct professor at WVU, authoring several books in his field. Thomas also studied languages, being fluent in many. After 25 years in Shepherdstown, West Virginia and spending summers in Maine, he moved to Fort Myers, FL year round in 1999. Thomas was closely connected with his Native American heritage and was a former Chief of the Kansas Delawares Nation. He was a founding member of All Faiths Unitarian Congregation of Fort Myers. There will be a memorial service at 5pm, Wednesday, May 30 at the home of Amanda Evans followed by a Life Celebration Reception at Sabal Springs Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: All Faiths Unitarian Congregation, or Hope Hospice, Fort Myers, FL.
 
 
 
 
 
Compatriot Martin Reese Kuhn
 
Martin Reece Kuhn, the only child of Maurice Elmer Kuhn and Augusta Reece Kuhn, passed away May 12, 2007. Born February 4, 1916 in Halls Summit, KS and reared in Pattonsburg, Missouri where he graduated fromhigh school in 1933. In 1937, he earned an AB from Central Methodist College, Fayette, Missouri where he met his future wife, Dollie MaeBarron, whom he married in 1939. During the years, 1942-1945, Reece served with distinction as a Naval Officer and in the South Pacific theater in World War II. Kuhn's life was built on hard work, dedication to the entrepreneurial spirit and service to country and community. During his formative years, Kuhn delivered papers by horseback, worked with his father in various independent businesses including moving the family vegetable canning operation from Missouri to Bonner Springs in 1945. In the mid-1950s, the business sold to the Richardson Corp, where he served as plant manager, later as Vice President and Director until his retirement in 1979. Kuhn was active in civic service, serving as
Bonner Springs Council Member and Mayor from 1983-1989, Bonner Springs Rotary, named a Paul Harris Fellow, member of Sons of the American Revolution, the Bonner Springs Methodist Church where he served in a number of capacities in various offices. He served as Bank Director of
Commercial State Bank, as a Governor of the Agricultural Hall of Fame and the planning commissions of Bonner Springs and Wyandotte County. He especially cherished his membership with the WWII LST Association. Reece is survived by his wife Dollie Mae of Leavenworth, daughters: Martha Marshall, Sun City West, AZ; Sara Niemann, Bonner Springs; Marilyn
Brown, Bella Vista, Arkansas, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 9:00 AM Wednesday May 16, at Bonner Springs Methodist Church, funeral services following at 10:00 at the church with interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, Kansas City,
