United States Presidents
A factor that has attracted men to the Sons of the American Revolution is that it is a Society thoroughly American, democratic, non-partisan and non-sectarian. The qualifications are good character and being a lineal descendant of a Patriot of the American Revolution.
Sixteen Compatriots have served as the President of the United States of America. From the date of its founding on April 30, 1889 Sons of the American Revolution has attracted leaders in government, business, the professions and the military. Our beliefs in patriotism, history and eductation have provided a common basis for participation by the men who have led this country. We honor these Compatriots who used their positions as President to build a better America. Each remembered the founding of this great nation and the role of their Revolutionary War ancestor in making America the beacon of liberty and justice for all.

Famous SAR Members
There have been many famous members in our Society.
Although our Revolution was fought to gain freedom from Great Britain, one of Britain's most famous leaders, Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, was a member of SAR, his mother, Jennie Jerome, descended from an American Patriot, Lt. Reuben Murray, of the Alnany Conty (NY) militia.
February 23, 2000, was a momentous day in the history of our Society when Juan Carlos I. King of Spain, was inducted as a compatriot and was also awarded the Gold Good Citizenship Medal. This took place in the Blair House in Washington, DC. He is the first king to become a member of SAR. The King traces his lineage to Carlos III, who was the reigning monarch at the time of our Revolutionary War. Carlos III was instrumental in making generous gifts and loans to the Patriots. Spain was the first national to provide for us financial aid--and did so before the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Without Spain's assistance, it is questionable whether we would have survived the first few months of the War. Source Spring 2000 SAR Magazine
